When I see my wisdom tooth, I wonder; why the need to remove it arises? There are many reasons behind Wisdom Tooth Extraction and one of them is the eruption of the wisdom tooth that is badly damaged or the one that cannot be repaired.

This is performed under local anesthesia and most of the pain disappears in the week. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons for Wisdom Tooth Extraction.

Reasons for Wisdom Tooth Extraction:

a) Pericoronitis: The tissue surrounding the wisdom tooth gets inflamed. Young Adults often are the victims of Pericoronitis. 95% of this problem occurs in lower wisdom teeth. As these teeth are not important for maintaining a correct bite, they are often extracted.

Some of the acute symptoms include swollen gum tissue around the wisdom tooth, pain in the teeth and bad taste in the mouth. When symptoms turn chronic, i.e. fever, wisdom tooth related abscess and difficulty opening the mouth, it's time to see a dentist and get it extracted quickly.

b) Tooth Root Infection: Tooth decay or we can say Tooth root infection is a common issue especially with wisdom teeth. If left untreated, this can lead to inflammation of the dental pulp.

It is one of the common reasons for Wisdom Tooth Extraction.

c) Periodontitis: This damages the bone and the tissue that supports the tooth. Removing or replacing the teeth is the only reasonable treatment option.
